Asian Bees Found on Horn Island

Since the discovery of Asian bees on Horn Island, staff from the Queensland Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (QDAFF) have been looking for nests.

Unfortunately the weather has not been kind and no nests have yet been found, although foraging bees have been seen. QDAFF staff and Dr David Guez, who is currently doing a project funded as part of the beekeeping industry’s contribution to the Transition of Management Plan (T2M) on the attractants for the Asian bees, will be on Horn Island again next week and hopefully will be successful in finding and destroying the nests.

For more details on Dr. Guez’s project.
